Travelling New Zealand

We are regularly asked what our favourite destination in the world is. We’re lucky to have travelled to many wonderful places, but for both of us the answer is easy – New Zealand!

For people who want adventure, beauty, kindness, and the conveniences of the developed world, nothing can beat travelling New Zealand.

Arriving in New Zealand

We landed in NZ full of excitement. Our first task….buy a van and get into the mountains!

Wanaka & Queenstown

We continued to the mountain towns of Wanaka and Queenstown where we spent 10 days walking, climbing and relaxing in an area that felt like a new home.

Fiords, Mountains and Waterfalls

We set off on the Southern Scenic Route, starting with the iconic Fiords of Milford Sound. We travelled south through caves, beaches and forests, to the historic city of Dunedin. We finished the loop off with a return to our beloved town of Wanaka.

Westland

Leaving Wanaka we returned to Christchurch for a few days.

We travelled from Christchurch through Arthur’s Pass and around Westland, seeing the stunning landscapes around Franz Joseph Glacier and beautiful beaches on the Great Coast Road.

In the process we had some along with some real highs and gutting lows.

Abel Tasman

Abel Tasman – beautiful beaches and epic rock climbing – what more could we want! Water torture??

The Heart of New Zealand

We travelled North into the heart of New Zealand, arriving in the beautiful capital of Wellington.

Our trip North took us to Volcanic craters in Tongariro, geothermal pools in Taupo and Rotorua, and magical caves in Waitomo.

Northland

Our plans for New Zealand concluded with a trip to the beach paradise of Northland, visiting Paihia and Russel then selling our beloved van Kenji in Auckland.

Our final days were spent on the vast and dramatic beaches of Piha

Changing Course

We were due to fly to Canada on 18th of March, but COVID-19 had something else to say.

After 8 months of travelling and good luck, the plan was due a setback. We didn’t realise how many setbacks would come in rapid succession. This post diarises our experiences in learning to adapt to a changing world.
